Got time for a Quickie??

Okay, now get your minds out of the gutter! I mean a short little burst of craftiness! Ha! I finished up a little re-do project for Punky Pie's room this week. A while back I purchased a plywood crown to hang on the little one's wall at a garage sale for three whole american dollars. I would show a before pic, but I kinda forgot to get one. Ooops. The girls and I popped all the horrid well-worn "jewels" and mirrored shapes off of it.
We were then in the process of sanding all the glitter/texture/gunk off when my smartypants helpful hubs suggested we just use the other side. Well now why the crap didn't I think of that?? Oh well. So I flipped that baby over and let Punky Pie pick the color she wanted (out of the choices I narrowed it down to for her, of course!). I gave it several coats and then it sat in the corner for a few days, which around here, is a miracle. Usually it would be a month.
While the girls were staying at my Mom's, I stopped by Hobby Lobby and picked up some things to fancy it up a bit so I could surprise Punky with it. (Ya know a crown has to be fancy--- no plain-jane royalty around these parts!)
I used some self-adhesive "jewels", some trim from the ribbon section, and some vinyl lettering cut on my Silhouette Cameo. Oh and of course my handy dandy glue gun!
I think it turned out purty darn cute and I think Punky Pie will love it.

Card Table Makeover

Finally! I completed a project that I pinned to Pinterest forever ago (that's a long time, ya know)! It has been a while since anything crafty has gone on around these parts- too long, actually. I have had this card table that I bought at a junk store years ago (before kids! Wow!) and it was just ugly blue and had a few tears in the top. So I did what any good Okie gal would do-- I duct taped those suckers! Ha! That crap will fix anything!

Along the way some many swipes of paint were added to that beautifully taped top. I really didn't care, seeing as how it stayed folded up and out of sight when not in use. Who cared if it was fugly?? It was just some old table I used for crafting and garage sales.

Well, of course Pinterest pointed out to me that I was being ridiculous, almost negligent, by just leaving it this way. It made me realize that I MUST fancy it up! So I went to the Hobby Lobby and bought a yard of this super cutsey oilcloth and a can of spray paint.

First up: The obligatory "Before" pic:
Janky Table
And one more with the "supplies needed" just for good measure!

Janky Table & Supplies
I bought the oilcloth and pain at Hobby Lobby. Side note: the oil cloth cost me more than the dang table, even at 30% off! I also used a hot glue gun, but it didn't make the photo op. You know what they look like.

How I did it: First, I wiped down the table to get all the nasty off of it. This is a necessary step if your table has been stored in the garage and rarely used, like mine. Next I removed all the screws that were holding the top to the frame.
What? You don't have a giant eye on your driveway? Huh.

Next, I painted the first coat onto the frame with Krylon indoor/outdoor spray paint in 'Island Splash' (satin finish). It took a few coats, but that was mainly because this gal was painting on a windy day. (And that is why I now need some new sunglasses-oops!)

Being the absent minded blogger that I am (um...hello! how long between posts around here??), I forgot to take pics of me burning myself hot gluing the oilcoth to the table top and the painting of the frame. I layed the cloth face down and the table top face down on that. Then began folding the edges of the cloth over the edge of the table top and gluing it in place. I initially attempted using a staple gun instead of a glue gun, but the staples went all the way through the table top. Luckily it didn't go through the cloth. So that just left the trusty glue gun.

Next: The Reveal! Ta Daaaa!

The Close up a.k.a. "money shot"
Well, whatcha think? I love it! I wish I had somewhere to leave it up. This was super fun and easy-peasy-lemon-squeezy! I have to give credit for this idea to this blog. I pinned it from Pinterest, but I never actually clicked over to the blog until just now to make the link. (They have a cute etsy shop too!) They used a vinyl table cloth, which would be much cheaper more cost effective! I really loved this oil cloth though and am so happy with the way it turned out!

So tell me....what have you been crafting???

Finally, Something

Well, this isn't gonna knock your socks off, but at least it's something. I turned one of Punky Pie's t-shirts into a pillow. It was something I could do fast and get a post up in the unlikely event that anyone one of my few followers is actually still checking my blog. Not my most crafty project, but it'll do for now!

Super easy and fairly quick (unless you are like me and get ahead of yourself and do things a bit backwards).

First, I pinned the sleeves and bottom seam,

I sewed these seams following the original hems of the shirt.  I then sewed most of the neck seam leaving a couple of inches open for stuffing. I stuffed the shirt and then hand-stitched the rest of the neck seam shut.

Lumpy but cute, no? Now I am not a seamstress. I know how to use my sewing machine, but am not very good a it. I would say my sewing skills are passable  at best. I also tend to forget all I learned in home-ec until after I am halfway through a project and realize I have eff'd it up. Good thing I own a few seam rippers.

If I was doing this again, I would first sew the sleeves and neck seam, leaving the STRAIGHT, bottom seam to sew up last. Now I am sure that this project is somewhere on Pinterest and that is probably where I got the idea. I should have checked I probably would have found a tutorial with some much better instructions, but instead I decided to take the lazy way be spontaneous and just wing it.

I have several projects on my To-Craft list and hopefully after Easter (and in between soccer games/practices), the weather will cooperate and I can get to them. And hopefully they will be much more inspiring and a heckuva lot more 'crafty'!
Please be patient and check back from time to time and I promise to be more frequent in my posting!

It wouldn't Be Called Skinny Dipping...More Like Chunky Dunking

So I haven't been able to do much crafting lately- thus the lack of crafty posts. So, I decided to talk about something else for a minute. Most of the blogs I read are written by some awesome women who have lost lots of weight. They are all super funny and very inspirational. If these chicks don't get you motivated about losing some weight, no one will! (Well, except for that biotch we all love to hate- Jillian Michaels!)
I weigh the most I have ever weighed right now. In fact, I hate to say this publicly, but I weigh more now than when I was pregnant with either of my kiddos. Ugh. I have hopped on the weight-loss band wagon many, many times. Usually it lasts a couple of weeks (or hours, ha!) and I fall right off. The most success I have ever had are the few times I have gone the Weight Watchers route. It really works and I like that I can eat anything- just less of it. Counting points isn't any harder that counting calories. The first few days to a week are the worst, but then it usually gets easier.
This time around however, I am going to try counting calories using MFP (it's free!) and exercise. I want to learn portion (and self) control. I may go back to Weight Watchers, but for now I am going this route. I really want to lose some weight before summer. I know I won't get where I want to be before then (weight-wise), but I want to wear shorts without being totally embarrassed. I have actually went entire summers without wearing shorts or a bathing suit. No fun! And in Oklahoma, freakin' hot! I like capris, but some days you need shorts!
I felt the need to share the fact that I need to lose weight here so that it might help hold me accountable. If you also need some motivation to get healthy (which is my goal- healthy, not super skinny), here are some awesome blogger chicks that motivate me (and who I wish were my friends IRL)!
  • Mama Laughlin- I found her through a friend (Hey Stormy!!) and she is so inspirational! She has lots lost lots of weight through healthy eating (not dieting) and good old fashioned exercise. She has two super cute little boys and amazing style! Plus she does some great make up and hair tutorials on her you tube channel.
  • Next up is Holly. She also has lost weight through better eating habits and exercise. She is funny , OCD, and I love her. She also has cutie patootie kiddos (Her daughter has the best hair!) and a equally (almost!) funny husband (check him out here.)
  • Skinny Meg is just awesomesauce! I wish I lived next door to her so she could be my personal trainer and interior decorator! Check her out even if you don't need to lose weight- her house is adorable! And her daughter has the best fashion sense!
  • Nancy Clue. Now, fair warning- if you don't care for cursing or talk of adult extra-curricular activites, she is not the woman for you. But, she is hilarious, honest, and has hopped on the getting-healthy band wagon. Love her!
I hope that if you are having trouble getting motivated to get fit, that one of these lovlies can help inspire you! Another great place is MLFC (Mama Laughlin Fit Camp) on facebook. This is a great support group for getting to a healthier lifestyle and there are some amazing chicks on there and some great weight-loss challenges to join!
Wish me luck!
